Count a few megs of memory as offset, like 500 bytes/user on the network
you're on, and then a few kbytes per local user.

On a medium Pentium you can handle around 1000 clients or so. There are
fast ppros and pIIs handling over 4000 clients on EFnet currently, I am
not sure about the ircd 2.9 but I am under the impression that it's more
efficient than the ircd 2.8 derivate used on EFnet.
