Little problem with KILL....

Last night (due to a combination of lag and impatience) I managed to
nick collide myself. Now, a side effect of this was that my nick of
choice was unavailable for 30 minutes. I can see the point of making a
nick unavailable if the kill had been between myself and someone else
(would prevent us both automatically logging back on again with the
same nick and colliding again), but I can't really see a case for
locking
a nick due to accidental collision.
Oh - and is/isn't there a case for a short channel-delay on a restarting
server (to allow channel member data to arrive and thus prevent hacked
ops)?
