Addendum to the tkServ announcement
Hello all,
after talking to some people about tkserv, i realized that i wasn't exact
enough in my previous announcement which went to this list. So here are
some facts which should have been included in the announcement (sorry):
- the temporary k-line service doesn't link to other tk-services on the
net. It only serves/concerns each "local" server it is running on.
(Therefore, it's _not_ something like a global k-line system which would
allow people to k-line globally.)
- only global operators may use any temporary k-line service. But it's not
relevant _where_ they have their O: line. They just need to be opered
but they _also_ must have an additional authorization on the concerned
tkserv. This means that if you were running this service, this would not
automatically mean that all opers can temp k-line users on your server.
- the benefits of the service are generally those:
+ faster/easier k-lining of users
+ the possibility to k-line users only for a given amount of time
(in the future, this amount of time can be specified (in hours))
+ the possibility to allow opers from other servers to temp k-line
abusers on your server (so they don't have to /kill them :)
+ could replace /kill (if lots of servers run it)
Happy New 1998,
Kasi
